Winter Camp is an annual required event and a part of the HHS band program. It is band camp….but for concert band. It’s our chance to prepare our spring music and become better musicians while having outstanding guest conductors and professional musicians on your instrument come in and work with you. It is a chance for you to learn more about your instrument and get instruction from professional musicians and collegiate level conductors. The rehearsals are long, but it will be worth it. We want you to get the most rehearsal time with the clinicians. You will be at school late on Thursday and you miss school on Friday. Plan ahead with these teachers! Logistics Dinner - The Band Parents have arranged a meal for you on Thursday. You must stay on campus for dinner. so we don’t include you in our count. If you are not planning on eating this food, you need to bring food or have your parents deliver it to the school. You will eat your normal school lunch at 11:30 on Friday. Thursday Dinner –Please click here to order your dinner from Jason's Deli: Missing Class - Mr. King has excused you from class on Friday. All band members are expected to be at all rehearsals. You should treat this as a field trip. Let your teachers know in advance and get make up work or reschedule tests. We are paying lots of money to have these wonderful clinicians come in and help and we need you there! Guest Clinicians Our guest conductors this year are Bobby Lambert and Lanie Radeckie. They are the band directors at Wando High School near Charleston, South Carolina. Their bands are Wando are among the best in the country. You may also remember Mr. Lambert from our leadership camp this summer. Our local masterclass clinicians are: Flute - Charles Page Trumpet - Dr. Joe Gray Clarinet - John Cooper French Horn - Mary Ellen Hovik Saxophone - Nancy Hallman Trombone - Bill Connell Bassoon - Ben McClay Euph/Tuba - Joel Mason Oboe - Vickie Truesdail Percussion - Zack Melton Concert At the end of the clinic, we will hold the Winter Camp Concert on Saturday at 12:00 pm. This is the first chance to perform our pieces that we are doing for MPA and other competitions. The guest conductor will conduct the concert. This is a “work in progress” concert! The concert should conclude this year about 1:00 pm, but we need help moving things back into the band room afterwards. The concert is free and parents/family are welcome to attend. What to wear: Band Polo shirts tucked into pants (khakis, jeans, etc). If you don’t have a polo shirt, come talk to a director. It is to the student's benefit to make sure you make arrangements with your room mates in advance to signing up!! Mattress Fundraiser Our 5th annual Mattress Fundraiser is coming up on Saturday, February 26th, from 10am to 5pm! All mattresses are made new with full manufacturer’s warranties. Financing, layaway, and delivery are available! We need your help over the next few weeks to get the word out in the community. Here's how you can help our band and your child. 1. Most of our sales will come from the efforts of parents and band members who find people who need a mattress. 2. Go to our Facebook event page, click that you are "going" to the event, and "invite" all your friends. If we have 100 parents, with 100 friends each, we have just reached 10,000 people!
