The Fall Concert for our Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band is coming up Thursday, November 5th at 7:00 pm in the HHS Auditorium. This concert is free. We will be releasing a website later this week so you can reserve your seats for the concert. EVERYONE ATTENDING should reserve your seats in advance to ensure we take care of social distancing in the audience. Students should wear their concert band attire that was given out the past couple of weeks. Call time for students for the concert is 6:15 pm. Councill Park Performance The wind ensemble was invited by the City of Huntsville to perform at the opening of the new Councill Park. This is the site of the former William Hooper Councill High School, the first public school in Huntsville for African American students. The mayor, city council, and other dignitaries are planning to attend. We are honored to play at this event. Leave at 12:00 pm and Return by 2:00 pm (during wind ensemble class on the first day all traditional students return to school) Location: Councill Park is located next to the Public Library on St. Clair Ave. This is also across from First Baptist Church. Approximately 5 minutes from HHS. Transportation: Student vehicles. Because of the close proximity to the school and smaller group of students, we are planning to drive over to the park at noon on the 26th. If you do not drive, please arrange a carpool with another student or an adult. Please contact Mr. Tankesley if transportation is an issue. Parking: Park in the public library parking lot. Uniform: Polo Shirts tucked into jeans (blue jeans, no holes). Bring a jacket if needed (HHS Band or HHS jacket preferred). You must wear a mask when not playing your instrument! HCS has not been approving on campus events related to fundraisers. We are looking for an alternate location. Large outside covered areas may also be an option. We prefer this to be in the HHS school zone, but are open to all availability. In the newest guidance, we are able to have volunteers at the school now with the same check-ins that band students go through at every band event and what teachers use to check in daily. Our uniform committee will be coming in to get caught up and begin issuing concert band uniforms to each student for the November 5th concert and beyond! Last Football Games The last game of the season against Decatur is scheduled for THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29th not FRIDAY. This was a mistake in the calendar and has been corrected. No halftime show. ~9:30 pm – Game ends and dismiss Uniform Starting with the Fall break game and continuing through the rest of the season, we are changing from khaki shorts to blue jeans with the polo shirt. Fall Concert Update We are moving towards a Thursday, November 5th Fall Concert. We have been given guidance to be able to have this concert take place in the auditorium. Masks will be required and we are working to space out audience members similarly (but much better) than you’ve seen at a football game. We will be working to see what the capacity of the auditorium is with social distancing. Based on this, we will determine how we will structure the concert that evening.
