Fall Break Game
The student leadership team asked each band member this past week whether or not they plan to be in town to perform at the Fall break game on Friday, October 9th at Milton Frank.  We are working to get firm numbers on those that are able to come.  Please assist us by making sure you have told your section leader your committment.

Upcoming Schedule
After Fall break (starting October 12th), we are going to adjust the schedule in the following ways:
  1. No percussion or guard sectionals on Mondays.  We will continue rehearsing during class time.
  2. Wind Ensemble will rehearse Tuesdays after school from 4:00 – 5:30 pm (except Tuesday, October 27th).  We may add Thursdays after football games are over.
  3. Symphonic Band will rehearse Mondays after school from 4:00 – 5:30 pm.
October 12- Woodwinds and percussion
October 19- Brass
October 26- Everyone
Nov. 2- Everyone
Nov. 9- No rehearsal
Nov. 16- Woodwinds and percussion
Nov. 23- Brass
Nov. 30- Everyone
Dec. 7- Everyone
Dec. 14- Everyone

Fall Concert
We are AIMING to have a Thursday, November 5th Fall Concert depending on how the students progress and ability to host a concert.  Please pencil this in on your calendar with some flexibility built in! 😊  Thank you for your understanding!

Last Football Game vs. Decatur
The last game of the season against Decatur is scheduled for THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29th not FRIDAY.   This was a mistake in the calendar and has been corrected.

When we return from Fall Break, we only have 2 games remaining – October 23 vs. Sparkman (homecoming) and October 29th vs. Decatur

MATTRESS SALE LOCATION
The 4th annual mattress sale is coming up on Sunday, November 8th.  We are hoping for a big turn out and need a successful fundraiser for our booster finances!  We typically raise $5,000 and more on this one Sunday!  Please share the facebook event page!  https://www.facebook.com/events/313712176690443/

We have been told that we are not guaranteed to have the sale at the school this year.  We are looking for an alternate location.  If you have access to a large room (community gym, cafeteria, church fellowship hall, banquet room, hotel banquet room) that we could use for free, please let us know!  Large outside covered areas may also be an option.   We prefer this to be in the HHS school zone, but are open to all availability.  You can view the video on the event page to see how much space we would need.

$$ EARN MONEY FOR YOUR BAND ACCOUNT $$

Thank you to those who have sent in addresses for the letter writing campaign! We are still accepting addresses. To submit yours, fill out the form https://forms.gle/xnsZKPgXyQyP9aFe6 for each address and we will set up a time for you to get your letters and postage-paid envelopes. For each donation we receive as a result of your letters, 50% will go to the band and 50% will go to your individual Charms account to be used for your band expenses.

Quick note about returning to in-person learning
Students who are doing HVA for the rest of the semester or remote learning for the rest of the 9-weeks are encouraged to come to band classes in-person.  You will be allowed to check in and participate in band class on the day of your cohort and then leave campus after class.  This applies to any band class.  Music has always been a social/community activity and kids enjoy it much more when they are working together.   We understand there are circumstances that would prevent some students from still participating in-person, some of which you have shared with us.  It’s still ok to remain completely virtual if that is best for your family.

Be prepared to rehearse inside.  Students will be seated 6 feet apart during class and will be required to wear their mask when not playing their instrument.  We will be sanitizing chairs, stands, and any other shared equipment between classes.  All students should be using their own mouthpiece and percussionists should have their own stick bag with their equipment.

                    Reminders
  • The game against Grissom has been changed to Thursday, September 24 at Alabama A&M.  The week of this game, we will do a FULL Band rehearsal on Tuesday, September 22nd to prepare for the game.  Color Guard and Percussion will need to join us this rehearsal.
  • Reminder that all percussionists should own a stick back with the following:  2 pairs of yarn mallets, a pair of timpani mallets, a pair of rubber mallets, a pair of CONCERT snare sticks, and a triangle beater.  When we return to school on September 21st, we will be checking these in class.

Volunteer Needed: Senior Night is this Friday!  Our senior band members and their families are recognized for their contributions.  Our parent in charge of senior night is a senior parent. We need a parent willing to direct the seniors and their families on the field that night. If you are willing, please contact Christ Rainey at Christy.rainey@me.com.  Ideally, this would be someone who would be willing to be the coordinator next year.  So, a sophomore or freshman parent would be ideal, but a junior parent would be great, too. All information will be provided.  You just need a desire to help and a willingness to direct.

  •        HHS VS GRISSOM RE-SCHEDULED

  • The game against Grissom has been changed to Thursday, September 24th.  I do not have a confirmed location or time yet.  The week of this game, we will do a FULL Band rehearsal on Tuesday, September 22nd to prepare for the game.  Color Guard and Percussion will need to join us this rehearsal.
  • At this point, it is doubtful we will be taking any kind of band to Madison City Stadium on September 18th for the games against James Clemens.  Madison City Schools is not allowing visiting bands are this time.

  • The Huntsville High School Band now has an online spirit-wear store.  It will be open at certain times of the year for orders.  Our first window is from now until September 15th.  Right now, we have 2 shirt options (including this year’s show shirt!) and a HHS Band mask.  Check it out!  You can pay for shipping directly to your house or pick it up at school. https://my.cheddarup.com/c/hhs-marching-band  Thank you to Darin Miller and the boosters for helping make this possible!

From Darin Miller, BPA President dsmiller2000@gmail.com

Thanks to everyone who attended our virtual Band Parents Association meeting on Tuesday night. After receiving the email votes we received unanimous YES on our band budget for this year. Thank you for voting.

Here is the link to the budget so that you can have it as reference during the year.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NcAA8XVy8JU5ZVE_CN-_hJn1hPFpvXLJ2doIYUaV3RU/edit?usp=sharing

Also, a very good question was raised by one of our parents about how we ensure checks and balances so that all money is accounted for and safe. Here is a list of precautions that we take to make sure everything is above board.

1. Darin, Brenda and Beth are all on all 3 accounts. BBVA checking,BBVA MM, Bryant Bank Checking
2. Brenda sends all the bank statements to Darin and Beth Monthly for review
3. Brenda, Beth, and Darin have access to the Bryant bank check register online, as well as the Band Finance spreadsheet (where all checks, debits or money out of the Band is logged)
4. Brenda, Beth, and Darin have access to all accounts online and can see all activity

Also, we are getting quotes to make sure that people who are in touch with the money are bonded. We will keep you posted on that process as we have progress.
