What is Color Guard?
Color Guard is part of the Huntsville High Band program that incorporates dance, flags and other equipment to visually enhance the music of the marching band. Color Guard is also its own activity performing and competing regionally during the spring semester.
Our Classes
As a guard member, students will register for two classes (one per semester). Once spring auditions are complete, we will send names to guidance to have schedules adjusted accordingly.
During the school day, guard class should be treated much like a PE class. Students will need to change into appropriate athletic clothes, have hair tied back, and bring their water containers.
Guard students often participate in other activities and we work with coaches/ sponsors to reduce or eliminate conflicts. We just ask that you inform us of any issues as soon as possible.
Fee Structure
All Color Guard members pay the same band fees as instrumental students ($750). This money goes towards instructors, purchase of flags, rifles, pom-poms, and other equipment/ props, competition fees, and performance uniform purchase.
Additionally, guard members are required to provide the following: 1/2 gal. water jug, SOLID black Nike track shorts, SOLID black leggings, earrings, bows, white cheer shoes, black or tan dance shoes, team t-shirt, backpack, and jacket.
You may begin making payments on these fees as soon as results are posted! There are many opportunities for you to pay down these fees by way of fundraising or working at the VBC.
