Things We Like

Picture
There was great energy and excitement Friday night in Oxford!! Even though we didn't get to perform our show on the field, these awesome kids made the best of the situation and had a blast playing for the Oxford band in their brand-new facilities. We are off to a great start and can't wait to be in Milton Frank this Friday night!!

Immediate Need!!!

We are in immediate need of a uniform coordinator volunteer. This person would ideally be able to pop in during marching band class on Thursdays or Fridays to touch base with the students and make sure they have everything for the games. Also, this person would need to be available before and during games. If you think you are a good fit for this, please contact Kelly Parrish at your earliest convenience as this is an immediate need.   [email protected]

Volunteers needed this weekend

Calling all parents!  Volunteers are still needed for Friday night's game and for the Car Show Saturday. Let's fill up those slots! Please sign up in Charms or contact Jaime Davis.  [email protected]

All Band fees due by November 7th.

Reminder - all band fees are due by the fall concert date of November 7th.  But you can make payments between now and then so that you don't have to pay them all on that date.  Make payments through Venmo, a check to the band box with your child's name on the envelope, or by credit card through Charms.

Calendar Fundraiser

The calendar fundraiser is now over. Please turn in all calendar forms with cash/checks to the band box this week. Thank you to everyone who participated!!

Boston Butts

We are currently taking orders for our Boston Butt fundraiser now through October 24.  Chuckwagon will be providing our butts this year and pick up will be on November 4 in front of the Freshman Academy from 9-11.  You can use the attached flier to begin taking orders.  Please attach money to order form before putting in band box.  If using Venmo, please include name of buyer, name of band student, and boston butt in the memo line.

Food
Students need to eat before/after the game.
Bring your water bottle to the game!

Uniform
woodwinds, brass, and percussion - Blue Band polos, khaki shorts, athletic shoes (no sandals, crocs, converse, etc.), and ankle length socks.
Color Guard casual uniform.

Hair should be pulled back out of your face (including guys with long hair) and no jewelry.  Pierced ears can be covered with band aids.

What else to bring and other information
Woodwinds and brass should have a flip folder and lyre.  Students are given the option to use their phone app with music on in instead of a flip folder, but they must be able to play and read the music, so additional accessories may be necessary.

Bring your water bottle to stay hydrated!

Students are not allowed to have food or any other liquids other than water in the stands.   We do not have time to visit the concession stand.

Only band students should be in our section of the stands.  This is for the safety of our kids and our instruments.  For instrument safety, instruments should be in your hands at all times.  Laying an instrument down risks someone bumping into it, kicking it or stepping on it.

Car Show - Saturday, Sept 9th detailed information for students
Pep Bands
We have a pep band that perform at the top of every hour starting at 4 pm with the last pep band at 7 pm.  All students were told to sign up for 1 time spot, but are welcome to sign up for more.   The pep band will perform for 15-20 minutes.  Please make sure you are ready to start on time, so arrive earlier than your scheduled time.

The pep band sign-up sheet for students is in the band room.  Your student should know what time they signed up for!

Marching Show Performance
All Marching Band students should arrive by 7:15 pm.  Some may be asked to come earlier to judge cars.

We are wearing FULL UNIFORM for the first time (jacket, pants, shako, plume, black shoes, black socks!!).  Color Guard will wear red dress show uniform and accessories.

Our Marching Show Performance will be at 8:00 pm followed by the car show awards ceremony.  After the awards, the entire band will gather and the winners will be allowed to take pictures with the band.

Visit https://www.huntsvillehsband.com/car-show.html for more info and to register.

BIG LONDON TRIP MEETING
The London trip meeting will be Thursday, November 16th at 6:00 pm in the HHS Band room or auditorium.  Plan for a 2 hour+ meeting and we need EVERY traveler going on the trip at this meeting.  We will discuss everything you need to know!  Attendance includes extended family going on the trip!

Parent Coordinator
Our parent trip coordinator for London is Karen Hansberger.  She has an amazing team of parents helping her.   If you have specific questions about the trip as we get closer, she will be a great resource.  She will also be helping collect rooming lists, passport copies, bus lists, shipping documents, and more.   Her email is [email protected]

What do I need to do right now?
Passports should be in your hand or applied for.  If this is not the case, you are risking your participation in this trip with no refund.
  1.  Fill out the room mate and chaperone selection form by September 15th.  Remember we must account for EVERY student on this trip and need people to allow an extra student or two to accompany them when we travel and move around London.
  2.  Make sure you have a HARD and SECURE instrument case for your instrument to travel in.  Trumpets and alto saxophones will be carried on the plane.  Flutes and clarinets will be packed in your luggage.  All other large instruments will be shipped 2-3 weeks early.  If you have a school instrument with a bad case, please let a director know.
  3. Measure your case, weigh your case with the instrument in it, record your serial number and submit the instrument form.  I will have a scale and measuring tape at school as well as we get closer to this date.
  4.  We are planning to release an itinerary in the coming weeks.  Research what you would like to do in your free time on the trip.  All students must be with an adult during your free time.
