Wednesday Gameday Information - HJHS vs. HCMS Football Game - Full Uniform!Next Wednesday, September 9th we will play the HCMS vs. HJHS football game at Milton Frank. This is a required performance. The game starts at 4:30 so all students will need to get to Milton Frank immediately after school! 8:30 am - Come to school as normal. Bring your uniform bag! 3:25 pm - All students excused from class to leave early to get to Milton Frank. Head to Milton Frank and use restrooms at Milton Frank to change clothes if needed. Carpool over to Milton Frank if needed! 3:45-4:25 Unload truck, prepare for performance. At halftime we will perform our halftime show. During the second half of the game we will allow students to go play with their middle school band. 6:30 pm - Game ends / load and go home! Load trucks during classes as normal. 3:40 pm - School gets out. Go get food off campus or bring food to eat after school. 4:50 pm - Everyone back at school. Get in uniforms (jackets off when traveling) 5:00 pm - Meeting and dismiss to buses. 5:15 pm - Depart on 4 school buses to Buckhorn. 5:50 pm - Arrive at Buckhorn. Unload trucks, get in uniform, warm ups 6:35 pm - March into stadium 7:00 pm - Game Starts. Perform halftime show - we go first. 9:30 pm - Approximate end of game. Load trucks. 10:30 pm - Depart Buckhorn 11:00 pm - Back at Huntsville High School. Unload truck and go home 11:15 pm - Dismiss. Check out policy Football games are school field trips. We have a check out policy for the accountability of every student on a trip and for every student's safety. Students should plan on riding the bus to and from the games/competitions unless there is an extenuating circumstance. Students have responsibilities when we return from the games to unload the truck and put their equipment up before they dismiss. If there is an extenuating circumstance that requires you to leave with your parents after the game/competition, make sure you know the following:
As always, communication is key with this. Students should never "just leave" after a game because we will not be able to account for that student and it could become a big deal. Highlights There is nothing quite like rival game Friday, but our favorite part of the Huntsville vs. Grissom rivalry is always coming together to make great music. On our trip to Rome, we will have a 1 day excursion to visit Pompeii or Florence. We will be putting a survey out soon to get input on this. This is one of the few "choices" we have to make on this trip. We can only choose 1. Both are full day events - leaving early morning and returning in the evening. We would take charter buses to Pompeii or take a European train up to Florence for the day.  Football Media Guides We’ve had several band families ask about purchasing this year’s football media guide. The Football Boosters have been working hard to put together a great guide for this season, and we expect the finished guides to be available in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we’d like to help Football get an idea of how many band families may be interested. If you think your family would like to purchase a media guide, please email us at [email protected]. This is not a commitment to purchase. We’re simply collecting a general headcount so we can let the Football Boosters know approximately how many copies to set aside for band families once they are available. Sonnie Hereford Pep Rally (marching band seniors/leadership only) Friday, August 28 - you will be excused from 1st block and advisory. We are carpooling to the event. 9:00 am - Meet at Sonny Hereford Elementary 2755 Wilson Dr NW, Huntsville, AL 35816 9:30 am - Pep Rally. The theme is "under construction." 10:15 am - Pep Rally ends 10:50 am - Back in 2nd block. We will wear black dry fit shirts/pep rally uniform/percussion jerseys. Because of the growing size of our band, we sometimes share instruments - so for this reason you must be using your own mouthpiece. VBC RVP Training Opportunity If you are 21 or older and plan to work or volunteer for Von Braun Center (VBC) shifts to earn funds toward your band account, mandatory Responsible Vendor Program (RVP) training is required. If you have not previously taken this one-time class at the facility, you must complete it to work future shifts.

Wednesday: Off Thursday: Game vs. Florence at Milton Frank (see info below) Friday: Off, Last day for marching uniform orders Gameday InformationThursday, August 13 Schedule: 5:30 pm - Arrive at Milton Frank. Students are responsible for getting to Milton Frank on their own. Unload truck. 5:45 pm - Section warm ups 6:15 pm - Full Band Warm up 6:30 pm - March into Stadium (we are not doing the pregame show at this first game) 6:50 pm - Play national anthem in the stands. 7:00 pm - Game Starts. Perform halftime show. 9:30 pm - Approximate end of game. Students are responsible for getting equipment back on trucks/trailers before they leave. Food/Drinks: Students should eat prior to arriving at 5:30 pm. No food or drinks other than water is allowed in the stands. Students will not have time to visit the concession stand during the game. Bring your water bottle to the game!!!! Transportation: All students meet at Milton Frank. We do not provide transportation for games at Milton Frank. Uniform: All winds and percussion wear their polo shirt and khaki shorts with athletic shoes and white, ankle length socks. Color Guard wears pep rally uniform. We will be distributing polo shirts to those that ordered them earlier in the week. If you haven't paid for your polo shirt, you must do that before the game on Thursday. Things you need: Instrument or equipment (larger instruments loaded on trailer and brough to stadium - you are responsible for making sure YOUR instrument/equipment gets loaded or placed in the proper location to get loaded). We kicked things off Tuesday evening with our Family Preview Night performance, and after returning to class on Wednesday, our student leaders brought their Crimson Panther energy to University Drive on Friday to help celebrate the grand opening of Advance Auto Parts. Crimson Crew This week we are taking applications for Crimson Crew - 8th grade students or middle school aged siblings of current HHS Band Members. If you are interested, please apply here by this Friday, August 14th. Trumpet and Trombone Mutes All trumpet and trombone players in the HHS Band program should own a metal straight mute. These are easy to find at one of the local music stores (Gadsden, Hallman's, Madison Band Supply) or ordered online. Dennis Wick, Jo Ral, Tom Crown, Yamaha, and Bach are all good straight mute companies. School Instruments If you play a school instrument (woodwinds or brass), you must have your own mouthpiece. Because of the growing size of our band, we sometime share instruments - so for this reason you must be using your own mouthpiece. Band Trips 26-27/Senior Trip Because of the Rome trip in 27-28, we are not planning any full band large trips this year. However, I have spoken to the seniors about a possible senior trip since they will not be going to Rome with us. We are in the early planning stages of determining if there is enough interest and potential locations. Polos and dry fits Polos and dry fits are in and will be handed out next week starting Monday.during class and continuing Tuesday rehearsal for anyone that didn't get Monday. If you haven't paid for your polo please do so ASAP. If you aren't sure if you paid already, please contact [email protected] Band Fee Payment Reminder The initial payment deadline of August 5 has passed. If the initial payment was not received by that date, the outstanding amount for that first payment has been added to the student’s CutTime account. Please review your CutTime account and make any payment currently due. Future payment deadlines have not yet passed and will remain due according to the existing payment schedule. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] Marching Uniform Store Deadline: Friday, Aug 14 The online marching uniform store is now open and will remain available through Friday, August 14, at 11:59 p.m. All new members of the band should order their black bibbers and black marching shoes. Students should have received their sizes during Form and Fitting Night. If your student was not fitted or has questions about sizing, please reach out before placing your order. Returning students should also try on their bibbers and shoes to make sure they still fit properly. If either item no longer fits or needs to be replaced, we recommend ordering a new one through the store. From tie-dye day to section day, our students brought incredible determination to the field! AnnouncementsFirst Game The football team informed us that the first game (Jamboree) has been moved from Friday, August 14 to Thursday, August 13. It will still be held at Milton Frank Stadium at 7:00 PM. First Day of School Band Information Bring your instrument/equipment on the first day! Marching band students should bring a change of clothes for outside rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday. 4-6:30 is the hottest part of the day! Everyone should still have a water bottle that they keep here. Students are allowed to have water during the school day in their classes to hydrate. Color Guard and Percussion class may go outside some days during class. We encourage you to bring a change of clothes and shoes and have water! You will have time to change into/out of outside clothes. All students must go through the Freshman Academy entrances when you arrive to school and go through weapons detectors. You can't just come in the side door to the band room like you have all summer. We have had no known issues with taking instruments through the detectors. Doors open at 8 am. Students are welcome in the band room before school to put instruments away. Some students like hanging out there until they have to go to class. Students will report directly to 1st block on Wednesday based on the schedule you currently have (for many 9th graders this is band class!) You will get a new schedule at that time with any changes. Advance Auto Performance - Leadership and Marching band seniors only Advance Auto is opening a new store at 4710 University Dr. and are making a donation to the band for us to come and play! Friday, August 7 10:00 am - After first block come directly to the band room. 10:15 am - Carpool to Advance Auto - 4710 University Dr. 11:00-11:30 am - Perform 11:30 am - students will be allowed to grab lunch on the way back to school 12:45 pm - all students must be in 3rd block. We will wear our black dry fit shirts for this event with khaki shorts. If you are a senior or leadership member and unable to go, please notify Mr. Tankesley ASAP. AnnouncementsDCI - Murfreesboro On Friday, July 24th we will once again travel to a DCI competition as an optional opportunity - limited to the first 50 people that sign up/pay through our Venmo (HuntsvilleHS-BandParentAssoc). Make sure to include students name and DCI in the notes of the payment. It is open to all band members and family. We do not have a final cost yet, but will communicate that out ASAP. Once we do that, we will start the sign up/payment process. Wind Ensemble 2026-27 The Wind Ensemble after school rehearsal schedule is changing because of traditional block. In addition, the Wind Ensemble is applying for one of two major national festivals - the Music for All Concert Festival in Indianapolis. You can review the Music for All National Festival Information for more details. The dates are April 1-3 and all Wind Ensemble members would be expected to go. The cost is around $1000. The new schedule details are available in this 2026-27 Wind Ensemble Handout, which was given to each member. We have not been accepted yet, and although we stand a good chance, nothing is guaranteed. We should know by August. However we want to be upfront about this major opportunity. All band students (excluding seniors and color guard) are required to perform with band. We will also take a limited number of percussion students - your student should know if they are performing. This is the day after the last day of school. We will take school buses to the event. Schedule 3:00 pm - Meet in the band room, load the truck 3:45 pm - Depart for VBC on school buses (we allow ample time for traffic....) 4:15 pm - Arrive at the VBC and unload 4:45 pm - Set up / move into the VBC 5:15 pm - Pre graduation concert 5:30 pm - Graduation starts 7:00 pm - End of the graduation. Move out, load truck ~7:30 pm - Back at School. Have a great summer!!!! Attire - Dress in business attire appropriate for being on the floor of graduation - no jeans, shorts, athletic or casual shoes, and t-shirts. Tuxedo and concert dress is not necessary. This is a change from past years as the game during Fall Break has been optional. We plan to do the halftime show at the Fall break game. We will excuse anyone from this game who has already spent money on a 2026 Fall break trip and let us know prior to April 1st. 2026–27 Band Fees Standard Rates: $800 (Marching/Guard) | $400 (Concert-Only) Pay in full by the end of Band Camp for a 5% discount ($760 / $380).
