Things We Like

Our color guard had an amazing winter guard season filled with hard work, a great show, and some terrific memories! They performed their show for the last time at championships at Western Kentucky University last week. Congratulations to the team, and heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated color guard staff whose efforts make such achievements possible!

Color Guard Uniform Return​

We are nearing the time of year when Uniforms need to be returned! 
Please return both Fall Marching Competition uniform and Parade uniform to the labeled “color guard” rack in the band room between 3/31 and 4/10.
Use the checklist below to ensure items are returned correctly:
  • Parade uniform: if you had yours since last year, dry cleaned with receipt attached. If you only wore once and there are no stains, return as is and Ms. Gorman will wash. 
  • Marching uniform: return black jean pants and blue jean vest. Both must be washed per washing directions. 
  • Uniforms will be inspected to ensure they are in good condition and your name checked off. Number on clothing must match number issued to you.
  • Red bag: must be returned. Please ensure your name label is on your bag (if your name label fell out of your bag, please write your name an a piece of paper and insert it in the window of the bag). Ensure there are no other items or garbage in your red bag when returned.
  • If you have any prior year Fall Marching uniforms, please return those cleaned as well. 
  • Please return your uniforms on a hanger in your labeled red bag and placed on the labeled “color guard” rack in the band room by 4/10. 
You may keep the t-shirt and bandannas from the Fall Marching competition uniform. Winter guard uniforms are yours to keep as are hair bows, earrings, etc. Make sure they are not left in your red bags. 

Ms. Gorman will be doing inventory during school hours on 4/11. If you do not return all pieces of your uniform a replacement fee will be assessed. Do not leave uniforms in guard room. 


​Weekly Schedule

Monday: Auditions during class (8th grade Woodwinds after school).  No Symphonic Band
Tuesday:   ACT Day.  8th grade Brass auditions after school.
Wednesday:  Auditions during class.  8th grade percussion auditions after school.
Thursday: Off (All State Band in Mobile)
Friday: Off (All State Band in Mobile)

We have so many students involved with the musical over the next 2 weeks.  We encourage you to go see Guys and Dolls - it's always a great production!  You can get tickets and see show times here:  Tix - Ticket Sales

Band Contracts
Band Contracts are due next week during auditions.  This is an extremely important document that we need returned this week!  Contracts were passed out in class on Thursday.  Be aware there is a front AND BACK.  Here is an electronic copy of the contract.  If you would like to submit them electronically, you can email them to [email protected]

MEDICAL INFORMATION!!! IMPORTANT!
If your student has medicine they need to take on this trip, read the following letter and follow instructions carefully.  If a student has a parent going on the trip, the parent of course can administer the medication without going through this process.    Click here for the letter and information about medications.  The band directors are trained by the school system to give these medications and can do so in the state of Missouri (unlike our recent Georgia trip with Wind Ensemble :) ) 

All medication must be turned in by April 24th!!  If there are any medications that is prescribed after this date due to illness, please give us a heads up, but only emergencies will be accommodated past the date.

Winter Guard
 The schedule can be viewed here.  
We have no more after school rehearsals!  However, Auditions for 25-26 are coming up the week of April 21-25 from 4-6 in the Freshman Cafeteria.

We will be going on a recruiting trip to Hampton Cove Middle, Huntsville Junior High, and Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary School on April 17th.  Students will miss school this day.  We plan to carpool - if you are willing to hang out with this day and drive please contact Nicole Gorman - [email protected].   More info coming soon.

Seniors
If you have not filled out this form, it is past due!

Senior Fine Arts Signing Day has been changed from May 16th to Thursday, May 15th during 4th block (around 2:00 pm).  All seniors involved in a fine art that plans to continue their fine art in college or in the military (regardless if you are receiving scholarship money) should plan to participate with their family!    Each senior will be recognized, sign a certificate, you will be able to set up a table decorated with items from the University you plan to attend, and attend a reception in your honor with dessert and treats.  It is sponsored by the Huntsville Symphony Guild.    A sign up form will be coming soon!

Friday, July 25th  Optional DCI Trip to MTSU (afternoon and evening)
Tuesday, July 29 Rehearsal  6-9 pm (required for all marching band students)
Thursday, July 31 Rehearsal 6-9 pm (required for all marching band students)

April 15 - Day of Percussion (4B percussion students) at Austin HS
April 15-17 - leadership training 4-5 pm in the band room for those interested
April 17 - Color Guard Recruiting Tour
April 21-25 - Color Guard Auditions 4-6 pm in the FA cafeteria
April 22 - Spring Training 4-6 pm (all 9-11 graders in marching band plus ALL upcoming 8th graders)
April 24 - Spring Concert 7:00 pm
April 28 - Dress rehearsal for those in the percussion and small ensemble concert (should be done by 5:30)
April 29 - Percussion and Small Ensemble Concert 7:00 pm
April 30 - Drum Major Auditions / leadership applications due.  
May 1-3  St. Louis Trip!
