Please eat a late brunch or early lunch before you come.  You will also have time after our prelims performances and possibly after our finals performance to get food at the stadium.  Here is the concession menu.  Cash and credit card accepted.

You can see the official facebook event here
All students are required to stay through awards at finals (9:00 pm).  Any students not riding the bus back must check their student out with Mrs. Johnson after awards unless previously approved by a director.  It can be a chaotic time after awards - the best place to check a student out is at the bus.  Do not just leave as it creates issues for accounting for all students.

General Game policies
Band Students should stay with the band at all times unless otherwise given permission.
Only band students and chaperones should be in the band area in the stands.
No food or drinks (other than water) in the stands.  Students do not have time to go to the concession stand during the game - students should eat before the game during the dinner break.
Instruments should always be in your hand while in the stands (to avoid an accident).
Students are expected to stay the entire game unless previous arrangements have been made with a director.
Students should always show good sportsmanship and use appropriate language at all times.

Uniform
Our first game in Full Uniform!!!  This can be a challenging for our new members - it's a lot of stuff to make sure you have!  As you prepare this week, put everything you need in your uniform bag - don't forget your black socks!

A reminder that students should not eat/drink anything other than water while in uniform.  Hair should be pulled up into the shako (including any guys with long hair).  No jewelry.

Check out policy
Students are highly encouraged to ride the bus to and from away games and competitions.  Not only is it easier to account for all students, but students generally enjoy the bus ride as part of high school band.    However, we understand there may be situations where you need to take your student home after the game is over on an away trip.  Please check out students with Mrs. Johnson (our volunteer coordinator) after the game or after awards (competition).  We either need an email directly from the parent of the student checking out prior to the game to [email protected] or the parent of that student personally checking him/her out after a game to let a student leave.

Parents can only check their own student out (unless we have an email giving permission in advance from the other student's parent). Any student leaving a game early must be approved in advance by a band director as it is a requirement to stay the whole game!  Thank you for your help to keep all students accounted for and safe.

Students who take the ACT/SAT the following morning will be allowed to leave after halftime.

Marching Percussion Sectional
Mr. Kirk would like to hold a special percussion sectional on Monday, September 16th from 4-5 pm.   If there are any conflicts, please email Mr. Kirk at [email protected]

Our first marching competition is a week from Saturday!  This is a full day event.  We should have our performance times this week and the full schedule with additional information should be in the newsletter next week, but plan for a full day.  This is a prelims/finals format so we could potentially perform once in the afternoon and once in the evening.

Uniform
Due to the heat, we wear our "casual" uniform for the first 2-3 games.  For winds and percussion this is your blue band polo, tucked into khaki shorts, athletic shoes, and white ankle-length socks.  Please wear a belt with your shorts!

We are planning to be in full uniform next week at James Clemens
Color guard -Lululemon skirt and t-shirt with your cheer shoes.

Special Concert / Collaboration
The UAH Wind Ensemble will be performing a concert at HHS on Thursday, September 26th at 7:30 pm in the auditorium.  We would love families to come and support this concert.  It will be less than an hour.

Students in Wind Ensemble are planning to collaborate on a piece as part of this concert.  We anticipate a short rehearsal after school on Wednesday, September 25th and a performance at the concert on Thursday, September 26th.  More info as we get closer....

Pep Rallies
Here are the scheduled pep rallies:
September 6 - Grissom
September 20 - Sparkman (pep rally for senior night)
October 11 - Homecoming Game against Albertville
November 1 - Lee
Playoff Pep Rallies- TBD

Pep rallies take place during the school day, but parents are welcome to check-in through the school and attend if you would like. In the past, pep rallies generally take place during advisory time (10:00 am), although I don't have confirmation of this for this year yet.

Mrs. Flippo has asked the band to wear a "uniform" for all pep rallies. It will be important students wear this on the day we have pep rallies. This will generally be the following:

Winds (Brass/Woodwinds) - Black dry-fit shirt and khaki shorts OR blue polo and khaki shorts (we will announce the week of). We may also switch to jeans as the temperature gets cooler (which we will announce to do as a group)
Percussion - Percussion jersey and khaki shorts OR jeans as the temperature changes (we will all either wear shorts or all wear jeans as announced that week). If ALL jerseys have not come in yet, percussion will wear same thing as winds
Color Guard - Lululemon Skirt and Guard shirt.

Band App
All parents and band students should be on the band app on your smart phone for last minute changes to the schedule and reminders.
